This is a photo session that I have been anxious to show. These are at a shoot for the architectural firm, SBBL Architecture, that is in the process of rebranding and refreshing their look. They needed photos that are up-to-date and visually appealing.

As small business owners, we are the face of our businesses.

It is paramount to have a current image that conveys your inviting personality. These photos should reflect modern trends, styles, color schemes and fashions which let your clients know that you keep up with the social pulse and will produce a contemporary product for them. I wouldn’t want to hire a professional that looks like they are still in the 1980’s (although I loved that decade!), and your clients don’t want that either.

Your image is your initial marketing piece. Your photo is in front of your prospects before you even get to speak to them. Your photo needs to be one that captivates, interests and puts people at ease. Potential clients want to feel like they know you and can relate to you.

These architects wanted to do just that. They needed headshots but also wanted more candid shots of their workspaces. They wanted to welcome the viewer in to be a part of their creative process.

Maybe I loved photographing for these guys because they were the fantastically gracious, even offering donuts upon my arrival. I think I also loved doing this because, if I had this life to do all over again, and photography wasn’t an option, being an architect is high on my back-up career list. I admire the architect’s skill, precision, problem solving and ingenuity. But for now I will create the photographs and they can keep crafting  inspiring structures!

The new year is here, the holidays are behind us and it is time to catch up on things!

Last year flew by like no other year has for me. Being a new mom and keeping my photography lively and astir, made for a full schedule. With the help of my great clients, I made many remarkable images, but didn’t get a chance to show them off. I’m excited that things are calmer now, as the beginning of each year tends to be, and I have a little time to share some of these treasures.

In no particular order, I will present these sessions in the next few posts. I will begin with…

Lily, Class of 2014!

Tucson has so many nooks and crannies that make for great photo locations. I found a fun one for this senior portrait.

Lily & I were lucky enough to have a small audience, college kids I’m guessing, for a short while, who recognized a senior photo shoot in session, and hooted and cheered her on, in the most supportive way! She didn’t skip a beat, smiled back and kept rolling with the session.

Usually seniors are as excited as I am about photographing by the railroad tracks. I love the history, the ruggedness, the American-ness, as well as the visual dynamic of the lines that the tracks create and carry through the images. So I’m really into this grand idea of these beautiful images when Lily tells me she’s not quite as excited about it because her brother works for the railroad and it’s just kind of old-news to her. But she humored me and we did a few and she ended up choosing some as her favorites! Woohoo! I love it when my fun photo ideas turn into something that is (accidentally) loved. Thanks for playing along, Lily!
